2012 Art Show

Lake Toxaway Art Show 2012

Our art show was a huge success. We had 148 paintings from 27 artists, 20 paintings sold.  Approximately 175 people attended, it seemed like the biggest crowd ever.

The People's Choice Award was awarded to Barbara  Milford for her entry of the Threesome (2chickens and a rooster.)  Heard many positive comments by those voting. Voters did remark it made them pay more attention to each painting. Judy and I counted the votes and ever artist had votes and the final count was very close.

Here are a few pictures I will changes theses weekly. Please send your pictures of the evening or your pictures of your paintings and I will include those.

News from August

Karen Margulis was our featured speaker at our August meeting. She gave a great presentation on painting wildflowers with pastels. Some key points: Pick your palette of pastels and set aside before you start, under painting with oils or watercolors and let it show through in places, use a very light stroke and light layers and use painters tape to secure paper to foam core.

Cathy Cooper is in charge of the gallery hanging in September. She needs artist to show. Give her a call.

Painting for Patriot's will be Sunday September 2nd from 4-6pm.This is with the Music on Rose Hill.

B.2012 SCHEDULE FOR PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS—distributed the current schedule.

Next steps:
a.Bette (Karen) poll all members to see how many would like to have Elsie Dresch back this summer for a 3 day pastel workshop June 13-14-15 rather than in August
b.Suggestion was made to expand current schedule for programs and workshops to include other major Guild events so that it becomes the overall Guild Schedule.
c. MAJOR ART GUILD EVENTS THIS SEASON

(1)July 9-31 TCARTS ART SHOW—Entire TCARTS “gallery” devoted to LTE Art Guild exhibit. Deliver art July 2-3 and July 5-6. Reception Friday July 13 from 4:00-6:00pm. Pick up art August 1-3. Brevard Gallery Walk is July 27 from 5:00-8:00pm. All of members need to participate as we need approximately 60-70 art works to fill the exhibit space.
TCARTS Coordinator: Bette Coningsby

(2)September 2 (Sunday) PAINTING FOR PATRIOTS 5:00-7:00pm. Our Art Guild will participate in the five day Patriot Weekend with an “art event” on Sunday afternoon down by the marina. Details to be worked out but initial thinking is a combination of art painting with children and demo painting by Guild Members. It was suggested that we buy 25-30 gallery wrap canvases in bulk from ASW or Jerry’s to save money and consolidate our needs. Also-during Patriots Week activities, there will be a silent auction on Thursday night, and they would welcome any of us donating one of our art pieces for this—Dwight and Anne Duke are the coordinators, so contact them to offer your art.
Co-Coordinator Donna Bradner Co-Coordinator Stephanie Callanan (to be confirmed)

(3)October 8 ANNUAL GUILD SHOW AT LTCC
Please note that this is on the 2nd Monday not the first. In cooperation with LTCC management, the show has now been extended through Wednesday to give members and guests more time to view our exhibit. The opening reception will be Monday evening, Oct. 8.
Co-Coordinator: Judy Termin Co-Coordinator:_____________ (need volunteer) c.EXTRA ‘”MINI-WORKSHOPS”—it has been suggested that we schedule 2-3 extra mini-workshops, probably small groups rather than a full program due to specialized and limited interest. We are tentatively planning to hold these for 2-3 hours. The first one will probably “How to Frame Pastel” conducted by Bob Coningsby in his workshop in the Coningsby home. As soon as we work out a date, we will notify everyone.
d.GUILD / LTCC EXHIBIT—The May 15 Exhibit Coordinator is Sue Fazio. Sue and her team hung their artwork TODAY with the new wire/clip hanging system and it works really well. There are five Guild artists exhibiting this month, and five are tentatively scheduled for next month to rotate on June 15 (Jim Hefley is coordinator). We would like for all Guild members to participate so contact Bette Coninsby, Judy Termin or Cathy Cooper to sign up for their monthly time period. We would like to have 5-6 artists each month.
e.Art Raffle at Art and Soul in Brevard—Jim has donated an original oil painting for the Raffle in May and June with all raffle money being donated to the Hope Center for Cancer in Asheville. So, stop in and buy a raffle ticket and see the very nice art in this gallery.

NEXT LTE ART GUILD MEETING IS JUNE 21.
