October 21st Meeting Notes

Bette Coningsby started the meeting by reading our Statement of Purpose.

Treasurer's Report. Maura reported a balance of $827.47.

Bette suggested we spend some money on covers for our art show screens. We have 23 screens, thanks to a donation of 9 screens by Cathy C. 14 screens need covers. It was voted and approved to have Stephanie buy material and make the screens if she can do this for less than $45 each, which is the price they can be purchased commercially, about $700. We would pay her for material and labor.

Publicity - Karen read MJ's report. MJ sent information and photos to the Transylvania Times Editor. She asked him to let her know when the article will run. MJ will get PR started next year by having Connie at the LTCA office include us in email blasts. MJ is stepping down as the PR Chair and we need a replacement.

Bette gave a month to month summary of our year:

Art Show- 24 artist participated, 15 paintings sold, everyone loved the new set up.

It was suggested that we ask the club to keep the Art Show up for longer. Perhaps Saturday through Wednesday, with the official opening on Monday. We talked about how to sell more paintings. Several suggestions were made; advertise show at Burlingame, Outdoor Resorts, Brown Trout etc. Some of these will be done but we have to remember we provide the wine and food and more might be needed. Bette C. volunteered to be the food coordinator for next year's show.

Program's suggested by those at the meeting; Photo Shop and framing.
Most workshops cost $50.00 per day per student, all but $25 for church rental, the rest goes to the artist.

Bette talked with Chris Wallace, Club Manager, about hanging different artist's paintings in the main dining room during the season. He thought that this was a good idea. Sue Fazio will head this if she gets 6 artists to each take one month. These six would get other artists to participate. We had 2 volunteers, Bette and Sue, we need 4 more so let me know. We discussed if photographers would want to participate. It was decided to go for paintings at first and if they wish they could also have a wall.

We talked about changing our membership to allow artist that do not live in Toxaway Estates join. It was decided to leave as is, any meeting is open to guest and workshops if we cannot fill with members.

Everyone was encouraged to join the Appalachian Pastel Society for $25.00. They meet at The WNC Agricultural Center.
